box of broken dreamsMy dreams are crushed,
my hopes are shattered
I gathered all the scattered pieces
and put them in a box,
like old toys going into storage,
I might need them again.
I then stopped pretending
was going to be alright
and that my world wasn't ending.
I let out a cry as I tossed the box into the bay
in the black of night,
but then I thought,
will find my desperate plea,
they'll find them
and think of me.
Recipe for Heartbreak
Breaking a heart is as easy as ripping out a butterfly's wings.
It strips it of all dignity and faith
until it withers away and dies.
It's quick, yet painful, requiring a few simple things
to break a heart or rip the fragile wings
If it involves breaking up, ask me, I'm the best.
I've compiled a short list of ways for you to test.
Step one is effortless, it's true
give them the silent treatment
and your relationship will be nearly through.
Step two is a sumptuous follow-up to one.
When you speak, use the words 'Ugly' and 'Worthless'
Who knows? You might have some fun.
Step three is the easiest, but most effective of all-
pick up your phone and give them a call.
Here's the best words for you to say:
"I don't love you, we're through.
I regret when we met on that damn star crossed day."
Hang up the phone and you'll realize it's true.
It's over, you're done, you're really through.
When you leave your love lying
and weeping on the floor,
like the butterfly's wings,
their hearts truly torn.
EasterRemember what you love,
you with sand in your teeth
and the feral burn of hunger
in your eyes.
God sends his regrets.
He made you grasping and slow,
in a late hour
when the wine washed low.
Remember what you love.
Fall to your knees in the toss
and the swell, quell
the appetite of the cold black sea.
Beg blessings for your home
and the salt-sick trees.
Reach what lies near:
the fat-faced child, the sweet-soft lamb;
tether the tantrum, trickle the blood.
Offer psalms to what is holy,
whisper the name of what you love
as it bobs in the bleak mad sea.
